PAPACHARALAMPOUS GEORGIOS

Civil Engineer

He was born in 1967, in Athens and he is married and a father of two.

He is a professional engineering license holder of Class C (superior) in geotechnical design and investigation (category 21) and Class B in hydraulic design (category 13).

EDUCATION

Civil Engineer NTUA (1991), holding a Master Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, with distinction from Imperial College.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

He worked as a Geotechnical Consultant at Attiko Metro S.A. for Athens Metro design and construction (1995-1996) and was also involved in hydraulic design (1991-1997).

From 1996 to2014 he has been an associate engineer of firms: “Sotiropoulos & Associates SA” and “Geomechaniki SA” and gradually became Design Department Supervisor, Member of Board of Directors, Technical Director (since 2008). Since 2014 and up today he is Partner and Managing Director of ATENEIA P.C.”

During the last 25 years, he gained extensive experience in all kinds of geotechnical projects, during project design and/or as a technical consultant for the Greek Government, as well as for Greek or foreign contractor companies and private entities during the construction of the projects. He also developed and uses private software (excel, visual basic) for the evaluation and treatment of geotechnical problems.

SELECTION OF PROJECTS

He served as principal designer or design coordinator, or as technical consultant in numerous  major infrastructure projects, such as: Ionia Odos, Egnatia Odos, E65 Central Greece Highway, E80 Nis-Serbian – Bulgarian border Highway, Railways Athens-Korinthos-Patras and Lianokladi-Domokos, Macedonia Airport Thessaloniki, PATHE Highway, Patra Port, Igoumenitsa Port, the Limassol Marina offshore facilities-Cyprus, Agiokampos Dam-Larissa, Landslide stabilization and remediation of National Roads Megalopoli-Kalamata and Tripoli-Sparti, Karla Reservoir, New Acropolis Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art of Goulandris Foundation, Submerged tunnel of Lefkas.

INNOVATION WORKS

He introduced and studied the first successive applications in Greece of soil improvement by Deep Mixing and Lightweight Fills by expanded polystyrene (EPS).

MEMBERSHIPS

He is a member of the Greek Technical Chamber, the Greek Institution of Civil Engineers, the Greek Scientific Society of Soil Mechanics & Geotechnical Engineering, the British Geotechnical Society (1995-2005) and the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

PUBLICATIONS

He has published several articles on geotechnical subjects and presented announcements in congresses in Greece and abroad.
